Aspen Institute\u00a0Central Europe celebrated it’s\u00a010th anniversary<\/a>!\u00a0The greatest value of Aspen is people. Let\u2019s say the Aspenians<\/em>, the people who have been taking part in some of the programs, the Aspen Young Leaders alumni, the people who took part in Aspen\u2019s discussions, those who helped financially, worked in the Aspen team, served on the board, have written for Aspen Review or those who advised. Aspen is people. Aspenians.<\/span><\/p>\n

A great deal has happened since 2012 when Aspen Institute Prague, later renamed<\/a> to Aspen Institute Central Europe, was founded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amid the international wave of populism<\/a> and neo-nationalism, Andrej Babi\u0161<\/a> and Viktor Orb\u00e1n<\/a> getting into power in Central Europe. The ongoing decline in trust in the media<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

#MeToo movement<\/a> spread worldwide, followed by Cancel Culture. International attention to WikiLeaks<\/a>. Snowden\u2019s<\/a> whistle on data protection. Prince William and Prince Harry\u2019s royal weddings, Meghan joins the royal family. The rise of the sharing economy<\/a>, the Internet of things and cloud computing. The first photo of a black hole. AI replacing<\/a> human jobs. Waves of Australian bushfires. Prince Harry and Meghan quitting the royal family.<\/span><\/p>\n

The COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>. The Harvey Weinstein<\/a> verdict. Worldwide, <\/span>Avengers: Endgame<\/span><\/i> grossed more money faster than any previous film in history. The stock market crash and the global economic recession. The American election fallout. Further data and privacy issues on Facebook<\/a>. One of the founders of Aspen Institute CE and US Secretary of State from Czechia Madeleine K. Albright<\/a> passes away. 5G networks<\/a> launching around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is definitely not at all what happened between 2012 and 2022. It is therefore not easy to put the last ten years of humankind into just a few sentences.<\/span><\/p>\n

But one thing is clear \u2013 society is evolving and the Aspen people follow current trends, issues and challenges. And more than that \u2013 they try to anticipate the upcoming and be helpful.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Just to make <\/span>Ideas Impacting Society<\/span><\/i> happen as stated in the Aspen claim from the 2017 rebranding<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the last decade, the Aspen Young Leader Program<\/a> joined almost\u00a0400 emerging leaders in Central Europe. Dozens of public debates, conferences or other policy meetings took place. These 10 years amounted to reaching hundreds of thousands of people not only in the CE region who got in touch with Aspen, his programs or outputs. People addressed topics such as value based leadership, liberal-democratic values, transatlantic issues or just \u2013in general\u2013 the future of our society and the whole (wo)man kind. <\/span><\/p>\n
