Klára Kolouchová
Klára Kolouchová (1978–2025) was the first Czech woman to summit the three highest mountains in the world. After climbing Mount Everest (8,848 m) in 2007, she stood on top of two eight-thousanders in 2019: the sacred Kangchenjunga (8,586 m) and, soon after, the magical yet ruthless K2 (8,611 m), the world’s second-highest mountain. Born in Prague, she climbed her first eight-thousander, Cho Oyu (8,201 m), in 2006 alongside Tashi Tenzing, grandson of the renowned Tenzing Norgay. She also completed the Seven Summits, the highest mountains of all continents, including Aconcagua (6,959 m), Denali (6,190 m) and Elbrus (5,642 m). In 2024, she became the first Czech woman to summit Annapurna (8,091 m), her fifth eight-thousander. Klára died on 3 July 2025 during her expedition to Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) in Pakistan, at the age of 46. She is survived by her husband and her children, Emma and Cyril.
