Anna Makarenko

Anna Makarenko is a human rights lawyer at the Office of the Public Defender of Rights in the Czech Republic, specializing in immigration detention and forced- return monitoring. Her mission is to protect vulnerable individuals in the migratory context by advocating for fair policies and humane treatment. She has led inspection visits to numerous detention facilities, working closely with law enforcement to ensure compliance with human rights standards. Additionally, she has worked as a trainer of human rights professionals in the context of deportation and has developed training curricula focused on human rights compliance. Anna is also deeply interested in migration policy and the prevention of torture, aiming to promote systemic improvements in these areas. Outside of work, she enjoys dancing ballet and practicing yoga.
