Jakub Kuřák

JAKUB KUŘÁK is a Czech astrophotographer and active member of the Liberec Astronomical Club, part of the Czech Astronomical Society. In December 2024, NASA featured his stunning image titled Geminid Meteors over a Snowy Forest as its “Astronomical Picture of the Day” – a composite capturing a meteor shower over a moonlit, snowy woodland near Szklarska Poręba. Earlier, in January 2025, he co-authored the image Many Tails of Comet G3 ATLAS, which NASA again selected as its “Astronomical Picture of the Day.” The photograph, captured collaboratively with Martin Mašek, showcases rare multiple tails of a comet, assembled from multi-channel exposures and processed in detail. In 2024, he won the Jindřich Zeman Junior Award for best astrophotographer. Based in the Liberec region, Kuřák contributes regularly to local astronomy outreach – reporting observational highlights, sharing astrophotography experiences, and participating in community events.
