Miroslav Wlachovský

MIROSLAV WLACHOVSKÝ is a Slovak diplomat, former Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and two times Foreign Policy Advisor to Slovak Prime Ministers – Mikuláš Dzurinda (2001-2003) and Eduard Heger (2022-2023). He is currently working in Globsec as Distinguished Fellow. He graduated in philosophy and sociology from Comenius University in Bratislava in 1994. Early in his career, he served as editor-in-chief of Medzinárodné otázky (Foreign Affairs) at the Slovak Institute of International Studies and later directed the research center of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA). He entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1998 as Director of the Department of Analyses and Planning, and from 2001 to 2003 was foreign policy advisor to Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda. His diplomatic service has included postings in Washington, D.C. (2003–2007) and at Slovakia’s Permanent Mission to International Organizations in Vienna (2009–2011). He was ambassador to the United Kingdom (2011–2015) and to Denmark (2018–2022). He also advised Minister Miroslav Lajčák during his 2016 candidacy for UN Secretary-General and led the Ministry’s Department of Strategic Communication. In 2023, he served as Minister of Foreign and European Affairs in the caretaker government of Prime Minister Ľudovít Ódor. He left the Slovak Foreign Service in December 2023 after 25 years, joined Globsec, started his own business as well as weekly podcast on Foreign Policy and International Relations Okno do sveta (Window to the World) in cooperation with private Press Agency SITA.
