
Václav Marhoul
Václav Marhoul is a Czech film director and producer. He graduated in production from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) and began his career as a production assistant at Barrandov Film Studio, working on films by Tomáš Vorel such as Pražská pětka and Kouř. In 1990, he became the studio’s general director. In 1997, he founded his own production company, Silver Screen, specializing in feature films and organizing events in theater and visual arts.
His films Mazaný Filip, Tobruk, and The Painted Bird have received numerous domestic and international awards, including the Oscar short-list nomination for Best International Feature Film and European Film Academy nomination for Best Feature Film. Beyond filmmaking, Marhoul is a founding member of the Tvrdohlaví art group and a member of the theater ensembles Pražská pětka and Divadlo Sklep. He also serves as a Major in the Active Reserves of the Czech Armed Forces.
