Praga Caput Cultura: Conference Report

What is the role of culture in city development? How to create a cultural and artistic offer that is appealing both to the locals and tourists? What are the best ways to support the functioning of community culture networks or to carry out strategic planning in culture? To find out, have a look at the summary of Praga Caput Cultura, a conference that we helped organize together with Prague 14 (Praha 14 kulturní), Prague Institute for Planning and Development, the American Chamber of Commerce and the Arts and Theatre Institute.

The conference, organized on September 18-19, provided a forum for debate on issues related to the strategic significance of culture in Prague. Discussion panels and interactive seminars were held to produce recommendations to the City Council of Prague, especially in the context of Strategic Plan for Prague that is currently under review. The participants worked with a broader notion of “culture”, which includes interactions within a community, use of public space and leisure time activities. Symbolically, the Conference took place in Prague 14, a district on the outskirts of Prague. Whereas the city center of the Czech capital has a thriving cultural scene, the City Council intends to further intensify its focus on the more remote districts of Prague
