Jan graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Masaryk University in Brno. He practiced law in Semily, where he comes from, and worked there at the attorneys’ office. In 2004 he became advisor to Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy, Martin Jahn. Later, he left with Jahn for Auto Škoda. In 2006-2014, Jan was the Mayor of Semily. In May of 2010 and in 2013 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic from the TOP 09 and Mayors party list. In the year 2017 he was the leader for the parliament elections for the party STAN and as the party was elected he became the chairman for this party. He is a member of the European Affairs Committee and the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee. In his political career he mainly pursues the transparency of public spending.
