Maroš Šefčovič

Maroš is Vice President of the European Commission for the EnergyUnion and coordination of the EUSpaceStrategy. In 2010-2014, he was the Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Inter-institutional Relations and Administration. After studying Economics in his native Bratislava, Maroš completed his Masters in International Relations in Moscow and received his PhD in International/European law in Bratislava in 2000. His career started in 1990 in Czech and Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served in both the Embassy in Zimbabwe and Canada before returning to the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he held various positions including Deputy Director, Director and Director General. In 1998 he became Deputy Head of Slovak Mission to the EU. He then served as Slovak Ambassador to Israel before becoming Slovak Permanent Representative to the EU in Brussels in 2004.
