Věra Jourová is Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Values and Transparency (since December 2019). During the period of Executive Vice-President Vestager’s temporary withdrawal from the Commission, Vice-President Jourová was also given steering and coordination responsibility for “A Europe Fit for the Digital Age”. She first took up her post as European Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Protection and Gender Equality in November 2014. As former Czech Minister for Regional Development (January-October 2014), she is currently the most important Czech representative in EU institutions. Prior to becoming Minister, she was a Member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and also worked in the private sector or as Deputy Minister of Regional Development.
