Matt Field

MATT FIELD OBE is the British Ambassador to the Czech Republic, a role he has held since 2023. In Prague, he has actively sought to engage wider audiences and the general public through an open and accessible communication style, most notably highlighted by his successful #JsemTuNovej campaign. A career diplomat who joined the UK Diplomatic Service in 2003, he previously served as the UK Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2018 to 2022. His extensive diplomatic background spans political and policy roles across Europe and Latin America. He has served in Brazil and Croatia, represented the UK in EU missions in Sarajevo and Skopje, and worked on the Middle East Peace Process. Before entering diplomacy, he worked for the international development charity Oxfam, the Japan 2002 World Cup Organising Committee, and as a teacher in Kenya. He holds a degree in Religious Studies, an MBA, and a Master’s degree in Japanese Studies.
