Petr Pavel is a Czech politician and retired army general who serves as the fourth President of the Czech Republic as of March 2023. After the Velvet Revolution, he worked as the Deputy Military and Air Attaché of the Czech Republic in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. He completed special courses at the Staff College in Camberley, the Royal College of Defence Studies in London and King’s College London. He also participated in the UNPROFOR mission in former Yugoslavia and later returned to international service for the Czech Republic. He served as Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army from 2012 to 2015. He held the position of Chairman of the NATO Military Committee between 2015 and 2018, becoming the first representative from former Warsaw Pact countries to assume the highest military position within the North Atlantic Alliance. Throughout his years of service, he received numerous high-level Czech and international honors and awards.
