On 4 June 2025, the Aspen Institute Central Europe, in cooperation with Czech Permanent Representation to the EU and the Prague House in Brussels, hosted a high-level debate on the topic “New Transatlantic Relations: Trade and Competitiveness.”

The discussion brought together key stakeholders and decision-makers, including:
– Ambassador Vladimír Bärtl, Czech Permanent Representative to the EU
– Ambassador Agnieszka Bartol, Permanent Representative of Poland to the EU
– Markus J. Beyrer, Director General of BusinessEurope
– Dita Charanzová, former Vice President of the European Parliament and Aspen Institute Central Europe Board of Directors Member

The moderator was Aspen Institute Central Europe Founder, Chairman of the Supervisory Board & Honorary Board Chairman Ivan Hodáč.

The participants engaged in a timely and constructive discussion on the future of EU–U.S. trade relations in an evolving geopolitical and economic context. They emphasized the importance of pursuing pragmatic and mutually beneficial negotiations aimed at establishing a stable and transparent legal framework for transatlantic trade.

Speakers also pointed out the risks associated with unilateral measures, which increase uncertainty and negatively impact both European and American businesses. The debate reaffirmed the need for strategic coordination, open dialogue, and long-term vision in strengthening the transatlantic economic partnership.

This event was part of a broader effort to foster dialogue on competitiveness, regulatory cooperation, and shared global challenges between the EU and the United States.
